-- Jephthah Ripley was recorded in the 1800 United States Census in Oakham, Worcester, Massachusetts, with a household of 12 members. One was a male age 10 – 15, which would be appropriate for his son Thomas, born in 1788.
--Thomas Ripley, a tanner of Oakham, purchased his first piece of property in Oakham in December 1809 along with Samuel Fairbanks
--The marriage intentions of Thomas Ripley and Betsy Addams of Barre were recorded in the Oakham Vital Records, 24 March 1811. Their marriage was recorded in Barre 15 May 1811.
--George Clinton Ripley, son of Thomas and Betsey, was born in Oakham 17 April 1812. Thomas’ father, Jepthah and his second wife, Mary/Marcy, also had a son George Leonard Ripley born a few weeks later in Oakham 1 June 1812. This is noted because the births of two men named George Ripley in Oakham in 1812 has caused some confusion and errors on the part of genealogical researchers. However, facts show that George L. Ripley, son of Jephthah and Mary/Marcy, lived many years in Oakham at the same time that George C. Ripley lived in New York. Also, George L. Ripley died in Grafton, Worcester, Massachusetts 18 March 1897. George C. Ripley, as shown below, died in Brooklyn, Kings, New York in 1895.
