Will

In the name of God, Amen, I John RIPETO of the County of Albemarle, being of (and in) my perfect senses and memory, but calling to mind the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, do make this my last Will and testament in the manner following ...

Item - My will and desire is that all my just debts should be paid out of my estate by my executors hereafter to be named

Item – I lend to my beloved wife Mary RIPETO, the tract of land whereon I now live, together with all the rest and residue of my estate of what nature and kind I may possess at my death, during her natural life or widowhood; and at her death or marriage, I give the tract of land and plantation whereon I now live to my daughter, Mary RIPETO, together with all the rest and residue of my estate, to her and her heirs forever. My reason for giving all my estate to my daughter Mary RIPETO is that I have already given to the rest of my children what I intended them to have of my estate.

And I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Mary RIPETO and Henry Stone, executors of this my last Will and testament.

In witness whereof, I have set my hand and seal this eleventh day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and five. Signed by the said RIPETO as his last Will and testament and witnessed by us at his request. In the presence of ... (signatures) Isaac Davis, Jr., Elizabeth D. Watts, Kinzea Stone, James Stone.

At a Court held for Albemarle County the 6th day of March 1820, this instrument of writing, purporting to be the last Will and testament of John RIPETO, deceased, was produced unto Court and proved by the oaths of Elizabeth D. Watts and James Stone, witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
