Biography
The daughter of Joseph Jay Ritchey and Rebecca Matilda (Young) Ritchey, Melinda Ritchey was born in Elk Lick, Pennsylvania[citation needed] in 1829. Her parents migrated west to Ohio, settling in Amboy Township, in Fulton County.
Melinda Ritchey married a recent immigrant from England, John Houghtby, marrying in Lucas County, Ohio on February 1, 1849.[1] They took up residence together in Ogden Township, in southern Michigan, farming, and having seven children together.[2][3][4]
Widowed in 1888, Melinda lived in 1900 in Blissfield Township, Michigan, residing with her son, Albert.[5] Melinda Houghtby passed away in Blissfield Township, Michigan[citation needed]at the age of 73 and is buried at Ogden Zion Cemetery in Blissfield.[6]
