John Gerald Ritchie, son of William Ritchie and Augusta Charlotte, was born on 26 July 1853 and was baptised at Calcutta, Bengal, India on 12 September 1853.^[1][2]

He married Amy Margaret Thackeray on 20 July 1882 in Roorkee, Bengal, India.^[3] Their children were:

• Theodosia Ritchie (1887–?)^[4]
• Margaret Angela Ritchie (1896–1983)^[2]

John died on 16 May 1921.^[5]
