Marie (Rittenhouse) Ottosen-Willard was a part of the Human Rights Movement.
From her obituary: "Marie said goodbye to her earthly life and hello to heaven on Sunday evening, February 8th at Bethany Collegeside in Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 94. She was born August 21, 1920 in Washington, DC to David and Cora Rittenhouse. She married Harold Ottosen on August 14, 1942, shortly before he was sent overseas to serve in World War II. Marie and Harold had seven children of whom six still live. They immigrated to Canada in 1967 and have called Alberta home ever since. Marie was educated a teacher, however her first love was books and being a librarian. Marie was also a social activist supporting several causes including the prolife movement and Amnesty International. Her biggest love, though, has always been her family. After Harold’s passing in 1999, Marie grieved for many years until she met her second husband, Allan Willard. They were married on March 2, 2010."
Marie wrote letters for Amnesty for many years. She worked in a prison library for a time, as well as in local libraries for the general public. Her second husband Allan died shortly after losing her.
