Biography

Anna Catharina Ritter may have been born about 1737 in the Province of Pennsylvania. Her father was Paul Ritter.[1]

Catharina married Frederick Limbaugh on 9 Apr 1758 in Colebrookdale Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.[2]

Their known children are Johannes Limbaugh, George Frederick Limbaugh Jr, Peter Limbaugh, Christian Limbaugh, Henry Limbaugh, and Michael Limbaugh.[3]

In Dec 1787, husband Frederick sold his real property in Northampton County and the family left the area.[1][3] The family relocated to western North Carolina.

In the will of Catharina's father Paul Ritter, dated 6 May 1798 and probated in Berks County, Pa. in 1799, Paul writes that "I have given to my son Henry Ritter and my daughter Catharina (wife of Friderick Limbach) each the sum of 400 pounds as their full share or portion, of my estate."[4] This is Catharina's last appearance in records. It establishes the relationship between Catharina and her father and provides perhaps the most definitive spelling for her name. Whether she died before or after 6 May 1798 is unknown. By 1804 her husband Frederick Limbaugh and sons Frederick, Jr. and Michael had relocated from western North Carolina to Cape Girardeau, Mo.; whether Catharina lived long enough to accompany them or not is unknown.
