Biography

Margaretha is the daughter of Jacob Ritter and Judith Dietrich.^[1] Although no birth record has been found, the Maryland 9 Aug 1776 census tells us she was 14 years old that year, living with her family in Elizabeth Hundred, Frederic County. Also called Elizabeth Town, in 1814 the name was changed to Hagerstown and it became part of Washington County, Maryland.^[2]
