James Rivers was born in Middlesex, England.

James Rivers was born in 1861. He was the son of Amos Rivers and Emma Davies. ^[1]

James' mother passed away in 1869 and his father married Eliza Taunton. In 1871, James was seen living with his father, step-mother and four siblings, in Bethnal Green, Middlesex. ^[2]

In 1887, James married Ellen Gown. James' middle name was noted as Kabel. The marriage was registered in Mile End Old Town. ^[3]

In 1901, James and his wife were living in Mile End Old Town. The couple had three son and a boarder was staying with them. James was a 39-year-old cabinet maker. ^[4]
