Biography

The widowed Amey appears on the 1790 census of Warren County, North Carolina[1] and the 1800 census of Halifax, Warren County, North Carolina.[2]

24 Aug. 1790; Aug. Ct. 1790. Est.JOSEPH SHEARIN, dec'd.; AMY SHEARIN, Admrx. Bond for 3,000 Pds.to Gov. ALEXANDER MARTIN. Sec: ISAAC ACREE & JESSE BELL. Wit: JA. TURNER Aug. Ct. 1790. Inv. Est. JOSEPH SHEARIN, dec'd., by AMEY SHEARIN, Admrx. Includes money in gold & silver, half Joes, Doubleloon, Guineas, & French crowns..[3]

29 Dec. 1790; May Ct. 1791. Valuation of negroes in Est. JOSEPH SHEARIN, & div. among 13 claimants: Mrs. AMEY SHEARIN, children of HENRY SHEARIN, DANIEL, WILLIAM, LUCY, FREDERICK, LEWIS, STERLING, JOHN, GARDNER, SALLEY, ISHAM & ABNER SHEARIN. Commrs: JNO. FAULCON, DANIEL SLEDGE & WM. VERSER.[4]

Amey owned 13 slaves in the 1790 Warren County,North Carolina census.[5]

She died in 1803 in Warren County, North Carolina and in August 1803 letters of administration for her estate were granted to Gardner Shearin who submitted the inventory of the estate. Divison of land was ordered in May 1805.[7][8]


She is buried in Shearin/Harris Cemetery, Halifax County, North Carolina, USA[9][10][11]

I think this Amey Rivers Shearin was the mother of Amey Shearin Alston,who was the mother of Amey Alston Bobbitt.That married John Richard Bobbitt. I am still working to find the connection if any. I believe there is.
