Biography

Isidore Helie Rivet, son of Elias Rivet and Magdeleine Lambert, was born on 2 July 1821 in Assumption Parish, Louisiana, United States. He was baptized on 21 October 1821 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary church in Plattenville. His godparents were Isidore Dugas and Justine Babin.^[1]

He married Carmelite Bermeyo, daughter of Remon Bermeyo and Marguerite Maroy, on 22 February 1841 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary church. Witnesses were Lufroi Savoi, Lucien Simoneaux, and Achille Dugas.^[2]

Isidore and Carmelite had ten known children:

Isidore's family was enumerated on a farm during the 1850 census in Assumption Parish.^[3] In 1860 their farm was described as being in or near Paincourtville. It was valued at $2500, with personal property valued at $400.^[4] By 1870, the family had moved to New Iberia, Iberia Parish, living on a farm valued at only $700 and with personal property of $125.^[5] Isidore and Carmelite were there in 1880, still supporting their sons Sosthene (who was paralyzed and disabled) and Felo (age 16). His son Lovinski lived on the farm next door with his wife and family.^[6]

Isidore died at age 74 on 28 January 1896 in Lydia, Iberia Parish.^[7] He was probably buried at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patoutville.^[8]
