Biography

Adam Senat Rivet, son of Paul Rivet and Marceline Eulalie Moralez, was born on 8 September 1858 in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, United States. He was baptized on 9 October 1858 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville. His godparents were Joseph Ignace Sarrita and Delphine LeBlanc.[1] He was probably enumerated on the 1860 Census as "Washington" (age 1), living with his parents in Donaldsonville.[2]

He married Jeanette Julienne Daigle, daughter of Jean Baptiste Gervais Daigle and Artemise LeBlanc, in Assumption Parish. They obtained a marriage license on 12 February 1879 in Assumption Parish,[3] and were married on 20 February 1879 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Paincourtville.[4][5]

They settled in Assumption Parish. They were enumerated there during the 1880 census with their infant son. Senat's occupation was Laborer.[6] According to the 1900 census, their farm was owned free and clear. Senat and his four older sons worked on the farm, while the younger children attended school. It stated everyone in the family could read, write and speak English.[7] The 1910 census stated the farm was located at Bruly St. Martin Road and was mortgaged. It also indicated that he and his wife spoke English, but could not read or write.[8]

Senat was left a widower in 1923, at age 64.[9][10] In 1930, he was a widowed farmer living alone, and owned his home.[11]

He died at age 80 years on 22 October 1938, in Belle Rose.[5][12]
