Biography

Marguerite Rivet, daughter of Theodore Rivet and Marie Esther LeBlanc, was born about 1786 in Louisiana, New Spain.[1]

She married David Close Hatch, son of Timothy Hatch and Eunice Beardsley (Jeanne Dorsley in the record), on 19 March 1806 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in St. Gabriel, Iberville Parish, Louisiana. Witnesses were Auguste Landry, Etienne Chiassant, and Isaac LeBlanc.[2][3]

Marguerite and David had the following known children:

  1. Jean Guillaume Hatch, b. 24 Mar 1807, d. about 25 Aug 1821
  2. Louise Hatch, b. 15 Apr 1809
  3. Marie Gertrude Hatch, b. about 1812, d. about 4 Jul 1821
  4. infant girl, b. 20 Nov 1813, d. about 9 Dec 1813[4]
  5. Emilie Hatch, b. 27 Sep 1814

Marguerite died by 11 February 1816, when she was buried at the St. Gabriel Catholic Church Cemetery.[1]

Research Notes

After Marguerite's death, David married her sister Modeste. He had at least two children by her, but their baptism records show Marguerite as their mother. This is obviously impossible. Note that there were three of David's children baptized at the same time in 1819: Emilie (last child of Marguerite), Jean Archibald and Jean Jackson (children of Modeste). It's probably a clerical error that the children were all entered in the register as children of the first wife, Marguerite. Jean Jackson's burial record a few months later shows his correct mother, Modeste.
