Biography

Alvin J. "Paw" Rivet, son of Desire Taileur Rivet and Lydia Ramagos, was born on 23 July 1913 in Louisiana.^[1][2] He lived with his parents and siblings in Iberville Parish during the 1920 census,^[3] and at Pointe Coupee Parish in 1930.^[2]

He may have had a first marriage which ended in divorce before 1940. This wife's name is currently unknown.^[4]

In the 1940 census, at the age of 26, Alvin was mentioned twice. The first enumeration was taken in Iberville Parish on 3 April 1940, where he was listed in the household of his parents. His father told the enumerator that Alvin was single and working as a farm laborer, and had completed his education through the eleventh grade.^[5] The second enumeration was taken three weeks later in Assumption Parish on 24 April, where he was living with his aunt and uncle. This enumerator was told by Alvin's cousin that Alvin was working as a tractor mechanic, divorced, and had a 4-year high school education. She also said that he worked 48 hours during the week before the census was taken, and had earned $800 in 1939.^[4] It is unknown exactly why the discrepancies exist, other than that each enumerator was given different information from two different people -- neither of whom were Alvin himself.

Alvin married Hazel Brasseaux, daughter of Edward and Viola Brasseaux, in 1946.^[6][7] They had at least one child, Mildred Elizabeth Rivet, in 1950.^[8]

He died at age 54 on 8 July 1968,^[1][9] and was buried at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic cemetery in Maringouin, Iberville Parish. His grave is located in Section 1, Row 1.^[1]
