Alexandre Rivette was born in Arnaudville, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, on 2 September 1856 to Jean Baptiste Rivette and Marie Sylvanie Lalonde.[1]
He was baptized on 15 March 1857 at St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville. His sponsors were Jean Batiste Hebert and Josephine Lalonde.[2]
He lived with his parents and siblings on their farm in St. Landry parish.[3][4]
Alexandre and Marie Louisa LaGrange, daughter of Placide LaGrange and Marie Louisa Guilbert, applied for a marriage license on 22 November 1879 at the Opelousas courthouse. They were married at St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville on 10 Dec 1879. Witnesses were Gustave Hollier, Valerie Stood [Stout?], and Augustin Lalonde.[5][6]
During the 1880 census, they were living in the Third Ward, St. Landry Parish. His sister Odelia and her family were living with them. His occupation was "worker in fields."[12]
By 1900 they had eight children. Their farm was to the northeast of Bayou Teche.[7]
In 1910 the census showed them at Port Barre, with only the four youngest children remaining at home.[13]
Alexandre Rivette probably died in St. Landry Parish; he was buried 17 December 1911 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Cemetery in Port Barre.[14]
