Elizabeth (Rix) Mason was born in England.

Biography

Elizabeth was born about 1841. She was the daughter of Joshua Rix and Martha Nightingale.

Elizabeth emigrated to Wellington, New Zealand in 1849 aboard the "Ajax" with her parents and younger (infant) brother. The Ajax departed England on 8 September 1848, arriving into Port Chalmers on 8 January 1849 and then onto Wellington, where it arrived on 7 February 1849. Her father, Joshua, is recorded on the passenger list as being aged 27, "a sawyer" and mother, Martha, is also aged 27. Her brother, Henry John was recorded as being aged 1, however, he died aboard the "Ajax" almost upon arrival at Wellington. Elizabeth was recorded on the passenger list as being aged 8.

She married George Mason in 1854^[1] and the couple farmed at Okain's Bay.

Elizabeth passed away in 1905, aged 66^[2] and is buried at the Okain's Bay Cemetery, Banks Peninsula, Canterbury, New Zealand.^[3]
