Biography

Presley married Earlena J. English in 1877 at Kittery, Maine.^[1]

Presley Rixey attended the "University of Virginia Department of Medicine, Charlottesville, graduating in 1873; entered the navy as an assistant surgeon in 1874; passed through various grades to that of rear admiral in 1902, when he was appointed surgeon general; was retired in 1910; served as the official physician to Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt; served during the World War as inspector general in the United States of medical activities in the navy, and with the Council of National Defense."^[2]

He was the official physician at the White House (1898-1909), plus was the personal physician for Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt.

USS Rixey (APH-3) was a casualty evacuation transport ship in the United States Navy during World War II. This vessel was named for Presley Marion Rixey, Surgeon General, USN.^[3]

Wrote his autobiography, The Life Story of Presley Marion Rixey: Surgeon General US Navy 1902 - 1910.

Rear Admiral Presley M. Rixey died in 1928.^[4][5]
