Biography

Sarah Roads was born about 6 October 1808 in Ohio, United States, daughter of John Roads (~1775–<1849) and Mary Hiestand (~1782–1845).[1]

Sarah and Claiborn Lea were married on 7 December 1829 in Highland County, Ohio.[2][3] Claiborn was born on 4 May 1799 in Virginia, United States. He was the son of Gideon Lea. Their children were:

  1. Mary Ann Lea (~1831– )
  2. Amy Elizabeth Lea (~1832–1901)
  3. Henrietta Susan Lea (1840–1916)
  4. Rutledge Lea (1843–1885)
  5. Helena F Lea (1846–1930)

In 1850, the family was living in Greenfield, Highland, Ohio.[4]

By 1860, they had moved to Keosauqua, Van Buren, Iowa.[5]

Sarah died on 20 June 1884 in Keosauqua, Van Buren County, Iowa, aged about 75. She was buried in Old Fairfield Cemetery, Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa.[1]
