Biography

OBITUARY God took the sunshine from the skies, He made the love light in your eyes. From the honeyed flowers he took the dew And made your tears unselfish and true. Upon a rock your faith he builded, With angels prayers your breath he filled And with his love, made yours divine, O, best of all, Mother of mine.

Arthusa Doty, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Boles) Robards was born December 29, 1833, and died February 5, 1929, at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 29 days. She was the last member of a family of ten children. Her entire life had been spent in and near Bargersville, where she was loved and respected.

On May 1, 1853 she was married to Christian Doty, who passed away in 1894. To them were born nine children, five of whom have preceded their mother in death.

In early life she united with the United Brethren church at Bethel, and as long as her health would permit she was an active and loyal member.

Aunt Arthuse, as she was called by her friends, had lead a beautiful Christian life and to know her was to love her. She had been in failing health for more than two years and most of this time has been confined to her bed. She was always thinking of the comfort of others and tried to be of as little care as possible. Her physician has often spoken of how cheerfully she bore her suffering. In the last few years she had many times expressed a desire to leave this world of pain and be relieved of her suffering and infirmity.

She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Melissa Groseclose, of Randles, Missouri; Mrs. Caroline Cook and Mrs. Kate Mathena of Bargersville; one son, Lewis Doty, of Willow Creek, Montana, fourteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, and a number of relatives and friends to await that reunion in the great beyond.

Life is an hour glass God holds in his hand. Each birth fills the goblet Each death thin the sand.

Her life was a symbol, Youth full and bright, Middle aged marked with duties She knew to be right.

Age crept on her slowly She bore it with grace, Only love and affection, Radiated her face.

Then the sands began falling, Time quickened its pace. Life’s temple was wasting Yet a smile lit her face.

We cling to her memory She has finished her day May her sweet spirit guide us As our sands ebb away.

Burial: Bargersville Cemetery Johnson County Indiana, USA
