"14 June 1800. John Robb in Mill of Fechle had a son born of his wife Elizabeth Henrie, baptised 17th inst and named George, before witnesses James Strath there and George Henderson in Mill of Coullie."
Udny Parish Records.[1].
George, son of John Robb and Elizabeth Henrie, was born or baptised on 17 June 1800 in Udny, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.[2]
George Robb and Elizabeth Anderson both residing in this parish of Ellon were contracted in order to marriage, were three times proclaimed in the Church of Ellon in the presence of the Congregation and married 29 November 1823 Ellon Parish Records[3].
In 1841 George Robb and his family were living in Pitgerso, in the Parish of Foveran. Their son Alexander, who would have been 8 years old, was not there the night of the census, but was staying at Mill of Auchterellon in the house of James Robb, farmer, and his wife, Ann. James was born in 1770 and was perhaps another son of John Rob, and thus George Robb's uncle.
In 1851 George Robb and family had moved to Changehill Farm, New Machar, where they had a farm of 75 acres, 70 of them arable. The census said he "employed 2 men", but these seem to be two of his sons, George and Alexander. Their three eldest children have moved away. James, the eldest, had been born in Auchterellen in 1824 when the newly-wed George and Elizabeth moved to live near their father's uncle, James. He was to marry Mary Johnstone in October of the same year, 1851, and take her to live at the Mill of Auchterellon, where he had been living. Mary Johnstone was 24, three years younger than he, and she came from Hornhillocks, also in the parish of Ellon. The parish records show the birth of their first two children, Mary, born 26.11.1852 and Ann, born almost exactly two years later, 30.11.1854.
