May Robb was born in Adelaide in 1906, the daughter of James Edward Robb and his wife Jane (nee Condell). She was educated at Adelaide High School.[1] She became a school teacher. Her parents lived in Adelaide and also owned a property (Lambina Station) at Oodnadatta, SA.[2] From newspaper articles, it appears she was a socialite.
She taught in Alice Springs, NT in 1935. At that stage she'd never ventured more than 100 miles from Adelaide and hadn't ever visited her parent's property near Oodnadatta[3](with photo). After completing a 3 year assignment there, in 1938 she returned to Glenelg in SA after a trip to Malaysia, Calcutta and Hong Kong.[4] She taught in Pine Creek, NT in 1940. She was in Darwin until 3 days before the first bombing.[5] (photo)
Her husband was a POW during WW2 and her marriage broke down after his return.
She accompanied evacuee children back to the UK in 1945 and stayed until at least 1948 working at the Australian High Commission.[6][7]
She returned from the UK on the "Stratheden", departing from London on 28 Oct 1948.[8] She had been living at 9 High St, N.W.3 in London and gave her occupation as lecturer.
By 1949, it appears she was back in Adelaide.[9]
