Biography

William Jesse Robbins was born June 27, 1835. He was the son of Jesse and Catharine (Lane) Robbins, natives of New Jersey. [1] [2] [3] His parents are buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lansing, Tompkins County, New York. [4]

William married Sarah Lodema Teeter on July 4, 1860. [5] In 1900, they were living in Groton, New York. [6]

On February 2, 1909, William’s brother-in-law, Warren Teeter, died. William and Sarah went to Ludlowville to stay with his widow. That evening, William Robbins went to bed in his usual health. About 3 o’clock he woke his wife saying he was sick and then died within an hour. [7]

William Robbins died February 4, 1909. He is buried in Groton Rural Cemetery, Groton, Tompkins County, New York. [8]

Ithaca, Feb 5 – While consoling with his [sister-in-law] Mrs. Warren Teeter at her home in Ludlowville, Wednesday night, over the death of her husband, William J. Robbins, one of the most prosperous and best known men of the town of Lansing, was seized with acute indigestion and dropped dead. Mr. Robbins had come to attend the funeral of Warren Teeter, which took place yesterday morning and he was a corpse before the remains of Mr. Teeter were taken from the house. An Ithaca undertaker was called to remove the body before the Teeter funeral could be held. Mr. Robbins, who was 74 years of age, had enjoyed excellent health. He is survived by his wife and one son. – Auburn, NY, Citizen, Friday, February 5, 1909.
