1870 Census. J. N. was living at home with his spouse, Sarah A. Sheffield and four of their children. J. N. was 27 and b. in Mississippi and Sarah A. was 26 and born in Alabama. The children in the home were:

Mirta E. age 3; and
Henry N. age 1.

1880 Census. Newman Shuffield was living with his spouse, Sarah, along with seven of their children in De Roche, Hot Spring, Arkansas. He was a farmer. This Census shows they were both 36 and he was born in TN and Sarah was b. in Alabama. The children in the home were as follows:

Henry age 11;
Thomas age 9;
William age 7;
Hardy age 5;
John age 3; and
Richard Shuffield less than one year old.[5]
