Biography

James Martin Roberson was the son of Jacob Roberson and Rhetta Bennett. After his father's death, James Martin traveled finding work as a farm laborer until he married.

1880 Census, age 25 est birth year 1855: This 1880 Census indicates father's birthplace is unknown, however other Census Records show his father was born in Georgia.
1900 Census, age 48 est birth year 1852

The completion of the Macon and Brunswick Railroad in 1870 linked Appling to populated regions of the state.

The 1870 Census Appling County lists James Roberson, 19, farm laborer, in the house hold of Anna Roberson. The same year James is also enumerated as a farm laborer in the household of James Conner, Lincoln Co militia District, Leatherville Post Office.
