Note N190212/98
Betty Jones (dad's sister) said that when they were in Antlers, Charlie Jones took them to the graveyard in Darwin. There they looked for and found a Roberson
headstone. It had "father" on one side and "mother" on the other. Under
"Father" was an inscription "Rev. W.J." and under that was carved "Co. S. 3
Ark. Inf. C.F.A." and under that was "1847 - 1923". On the side under
"Mother" was written "Sarah K." and under that "1858 - 1937". Beneath all
of the above was a written inscription "Earth has no sorrow that Heaven
cannot heal"
The Civil War Unit presents a mystery and may be an error.
(Probably not our William James)
Roberson, William J Private Enlisted in Co. F, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, at Rockport, Arkansas, June 20, 1861; discharged for "camp fever" [typhus] at Camp Lee, Virginia, July 16, 1862; born in Lawrence county, Alabama, c1841; buried in Ouachita Cemetery, Donaldson, Arkansas; married Eliza Blakely in Hot Spring
county, May 28 1885; listed in Hot Spring county 1860 census; occupation
Researchers contacted: Bryan R. Howerton <howerton@@@@cswnet.com> and Edward G. Gerdes <egerdes@@@@insolwwb.net>
Copies of the pension application made by Sarah K to LA pension commission shows the pension was denied. Yet, grandpa remembers she did receive a pension. This record shows Sarah K Hardin's place of origin as Talapoosa, AL but family lore has her born in AR.
