Biography

Peter Austin Lies was born Nov 11, 1865 to the parents Nicholas Lies and Susanna (Elizabeth) Hanton in Bellevue, Dubuque County, Iowa. Sometime later, the family moved to near Gilbertville in Black Hawk County, Iowa.

On August 5, 1890 Peter married Catherine Robert in the Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville. They took up farming near Gilbertville.

They had nine children: 1891 - William 1893 - Henry (Harry) 1896 - Joseph 1898 - Luvina 1901 - Frank William 1903 - Lawrence Nicolas 1905 - Elizabeth Catherine 1909 - Clara Elizabeth 1911 - Bertha Mathilda

Sometime around 1920, Peter and Catherine and the kids moved "to town" at 901 Mulberry, Waterloo, Iowa. The family remained there until the last child died (Lawrence in 1988).
