Caroline A Roberts, spinster, and Benjamin T Saunders, widower, were married in 1874 at the house of Captain John Roberts in New Plymouth. They were married by Joseph Prior, Wesleyan Minister. The ceremony was witnessed by William Roberts and John Roberts.
Caroline Roberts Saunders' husband, Benjamin Turtle Saunders, died three months later, 26 October 1874, at the age of 51 years.
