Biography
Daughter of John Somers Roberts (1716-1797) and Martha Roberts (1715-1764).
POB may have been Milford, Bucks Co, PA, where her brothers and sisters were born and her parents died.
Jane's family was of Welsh descent. Her parents were both Quakers, and she was a member of the Radnor, Montgomery Co, PA, meeting.
James Maxwell married Jane Roberts (1745-1820) in 1767. They had fourteen children: Elizabeth Amanda (1767-1851); Thomas (1769-1861); Mary Jane (1774-after 27 Mar 1821); John William (1776-1840); Margaret "Peggy" (1776-1851); Matilda “Mattie” or "Mollie" (1778-1782); Virginia "Jennie" (1779-1782); Nancy Ann (1780-1840); James, Jr. (1782-1866); Sarah "Sary" (1783-1845); William James (1785-1866); Robert (1786-1861); Jane (1788-1861); Margaret Elizabeth (1798-1876).
Date and place of marriage also given as 1771 in Tazewell, Tazewell Co, VA, and ca. 1765 or 1776 in Philadelphia, PA.
