The Vernon County Censor published a short piece about school that included a reference to two of the Roberts children:
"School Report Report of Victory school district No. 2, town of Wheatland, for the month ending May 12th; number of days taught 20; whole number of days attendance 7845 (hard to read); average daily attendance 39.3. Names of pupils neither tardy nor absent: May Oliver, Robert Angell, Myron Dederick, Adda Waller, Vesta Fox, Rosie Bailey, Grace Sicord, Blanch Sicord, Rosie Henderson, Maggie Valliant, Russell Angell, Harry Angell, Lotus Roberts and Grace Valliant. Names of pupils tardy but not absent: Frank Gould, Harold Owen, Jackie Roberts, Amos Bond, Earl Miller and Louise Stuart. Names of pupils who missed one day or less: Vina Oliver, Willie Podowitz, Tommy Farley, Freddie Farley, Harry Woodhouse and Gordie Bond. W.H. Brown, Teacher"[1]
Lotus died of a "contagious disease" on January 13, 1910. [2]
"Jackie has a beautiful portrait of Lotus, a tinted photograph. She looks about nine years old. Her death was very hard on her mother."[3]
