Mary Martha Roberts 1790–1850 Birth about 1790 • , Orange, North Carolina, United States Death June 1850 • , Warren, Tennessee, United States

When Mary Martha Roberts was born in c 1790 (sources reference dates ranging from 1789 - 1799) in Orange, North Carolina, her father, Reuben, was 39, and her mother, Mary, was 31. She had a son, John Hibbs, Jr. born in 1810 in Anderson County, Tennessee. On 17 Jan 1811, in an Anderson County lawsuit "Polly Roberts vs. John Hibbs" she asked for child support of $10 a year until child is five. On 16 Oct 1811, there was an order to pay back to 17 Jan 1811. No marriage or divorce records have been found; however, suing with her maiden name indicates they may not have married and divorced. She moved to Warren County in 1811. She married John Cotton 20 Jan 1813 in Warren County, Tennessee, and they had 11 children together. On 10 Jan 1844, John Cotten and wife Mary gave all their property to son Wm F. Cotten. She predeceased her husband in June 1850 in Warren, Tennessee, at the age of 60. John passed in 1853 and they are both buried in Cotten Cemetery, Warren County, Tennessee.
