Biography
Joel Roberts was born about 1803 in Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky. He was 27 years old when he married 17 year old Ellen Turner in Wayne, Kentucky about 1827. Ten years later in 1837 Joel and Ellen migrated west with the Turners to settle in Boone County, Missouri.

- James Roberts, 1835–1909
- Elizabeth Roberts, 1842–1920
- Squire Roberts, 1844–1906
In 1844, about seven months after their youngest child, Squire was born, Joel passed away on October 5 in Hallsville, Boone County Missouri at the age of 41. Joel's will was dated August 1844 and was probated 3 August 1844 in Platte, Missouri. [1]
By 1950 Ellen was living in District 8 of Boone County with four of her six children. [2]
In 1860 Ellen and three of her children, James, Elizabeth and Squire were residing in Saling Township in Audrain County, Missouri. The value of their land was $300 and Nellie's occupation was listed as a "farmer. Her eldest son William also lived on a farm in Audrain. She lived in Audrain during the Civil War, as Confederate and Union troops passed by her home daily. [3]
