He married Martha Ann Pinder on 2 January 1852 in Key West, Florida, in a ceremony performed by James Prader, M.G.[2] The witness was Martin Weatherford.
Richard died on 7 February 1900 in Key West, and he is buried there in the City Cemetery.[3]
