Bowral Free Press and Berrima District Intelligencer (NSW : 1884 - 1901), Saturday 25 August 1888. [1] Marriage. Miss Minna Augusta Roberts, daughter of the Hon. R. H. Roberts, M.L.C., of Roberton Park, near Bowral, was on Wednesday last married to Mr, Herbert G. M. Thackeray, of Young. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. W. Debenham, M.A., incumbent of St. Simon and St. Jude's, Bowral, in the presence of about 150 spectators. The bride, who was handsomely attired in white and orange blossoms, was given away by her father, and her sister acted as bridesmaid. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the wedding party adjourned to the School of Arts, where a wedding breakfast was laid by Compagnoni and Co., of Sydney, for 90 invited guests, all of whom, with the exception of a few, were present. The hall was handsomely decorated for the occasion by Mr. H. Petaber, of Bowral. Among the guests were most of the leading and representative men of the town and district. Toasts suitable to the occasion were duly honoured, and the company enjoyed themselves until five o'clock in the evening, when they dispersed, and gave opportunity for the clearing of the hall for the purposes of a ball. The wedded couple left by the Express train for Melbourne having received a right hearty send off, and the guests who remained behind danced in the School of Arts till about 4 o'clock the following morning, to the enlivening strains of a quadrille band from Sydney.
