Biography

Pvt Alvin Roberts served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: Oct 06, 1861

Alvin was born about 1816. His parents are currently unknown as is his birth place for a certainty. He reported various answers in regards to his birth state for the census. Once his answer was Pennsylvania and another was Kentucky. In a short biography done by the church, they recount his story of his mother dying when he was young and disliking his step-mother he ran away from home. If he ever told his family who his people were it has been lost in time.

Marriage & Children

Alvin married Lucinda R Gatlin on 7 October 1837 in Hopkins county, Kentucky. They had the following seven children together:

  3. Nathaniel Stuart b. 1844
  4. Willam Lafayette b. 1852
  5. Mary Elizabeth b. 1856
  6. Martha Ann b. 1858

Civil War Service

He and his sons, James and Thomas, enlisted in the Union Army from Cairo, Illinois.

Physical Description

From his service record we know that Alvin/Albion was 46 years old at enlistment. He was 5' 8 1/2" tall, had dark hair, a light complexion and blue eyes.
He was discharged for disability on 21 Jan 1862 at Cairo ILL.

Death

He passed away in 1862 from the results of typhoid fever contracted while in the service.
