Story written by Minnie Roberts about the Matlock Roberts family

James Henry was the youngest son, born to Matlock Roberts and Zilpha^[1] (last name uncertain supposed to be Bane) on the 25th of August 1855 in Tennessee .

I believe there may have been 17 children^[2], however to date I have only found 12:

9. Jane Jennie BaneJ(1848-?)^[1]
10. Paschal Charlie Roberts (1849-?)^[1]
11. Amanda P Roberts (1854-1940)^[1]
12. James Henry Roberts (1855-1950)^[1]

In 1860^[1] He was living in District 11, Wilson, Tennessee. The post office was Shop Spring - Matlock 50, Zilpha 50, Catharine 20, Diana 18, Jennie Pink 13, Paschal 11, Amanda 7, James 4. Matlock was a farmer with about $200 to his name, and no real estate value.

In 1870^[3]Matlock 60 and Zilpha 55 have relocated to DeKalb County and James Henry 14 is the only one at home. Matlock now how had a real estate value of $400 and personal estate of $600.

He married Malvina Wauford on July 21st, 1873^[4] and they had 12 children.

In 1880^[5] they are living next door to Matlock and Zilpha - the census got Malvina's name wrong and wrote her as Jospehina - In the home are James 23, Malvina 25, Mallie 6, Charlie 4 and Thursday J 2.

In 1900^[6] they are living in Rockhouse, Perry, Tennessee, In the home are James Henry 48, Malvina 45, Joseph 19, Gertrude 17, Jennie 15, Henry 14, Della 12, Lula 9, Minnie 8, Frank 6, Zilpha 4 and Mandy Joseph's wife 19. It had been 4 months since James had been employed. and they were living in a house.

James passed away on September 14, 1905 in Dodd City, Fannin County, Texas and is believed to be buried there in the Smyrna Cemetery^[7].
