Edmund was born in 1784. He died in 1836 at the age of 51.
Edmund Roberts, of Portsmouth, was Envoy of the United States Government and negotiated the first treaty between this country and Siam and Cochin China. The journal of his travels in remote Eastern lands, at that time almost unvisited, was published after his death, which took place in 1837, while abroad on public business.[1]
Accomplished American diplomat to various Asian countries, including Siam (Thailand), Cochin-China (southern Vietnam), Japan, and Muscat (Oman).
