Baptized on 18 Sep 1804 and identified as the son of Robert Jones of Erw ffordd. His marriage certificate also identifies him as residing at Erw fforch. A note in the Llanrug Parish Burial record for his daughter Elizabeth refers to him as "the singing master." In addition to his work as a quarryman, he operated the New Beer House at Hen Efail and later, the Hare Public House at Court y Guard.
