Holland was born about 1895 in Nebraska. His father, Dr. William James Roberts, died when Holland was a toddler. His mother, Carrie Miller Roberts, took her two children back to Peoria, Illinois to live with her father. Holland grew up there. He served in the U.S. Army Ambulance Corps, Train #7, France during WW1. 1918-1919 While selling pots door-to-door, he met Flora Surface. After wooing her and charming her Aunt Flora, they were wed and entered married life attending the University of Chicago. He was an educator. He passed away about 1976.
