Biography

Jane came to Western Australia with her parents on the Diadem, arriving on 10 April 1842.[1]

She married Robert Scott in in 1853 at Capel.[2]

Another of the early residents of the South-West in the person of Mrs. Jane Scott passed away at Fremantle on Monday. The deceased, who had

reached the advanced age of 90 years, came to W.A. with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts, in the Diadem, ar riving here in 1841. They were some of the Australind Land Settlement clients, and on the same vessel were the Crampton's, the Hayes, the Ram-says, and the Harris family, names which are well known through out the State. Miss Roberts married Mr Robert Scott, whose father had been in the State for some years and was managing part of Sir James Stirling's Estate, portion of which is now Mill Point. Mr. Robert Scott was a well known identity in Bunbury, and after relinquishing his farming pur suits he carried on a boarding house on the site now occupied by the Na tional Bank. In this business Mrs. Scott was actively engaged and continued it for some time after the death of her husband before retiring. Some years ago she left the town to reside with her daughter at Fremantle.

The remains, which were enclosed in a polished jarrah casket with heavy silver mountings, were conveyed to Bunbury by train, and the burial service took place at the old Anglican cemetery yesterday afternoon, Canon Adams conducting the last rites. There was a large assembly of local and country residents at the grave-side to pay their tribute of respect, and, amongst the floral tributes re-ceived were wreaths from her loving daughters, Flora, Lena, Mary and Bessie; Mrs. Mitchell, Miss Mitchell, Miss Ford, Mr. and Mrs. Scrivens, I Mr. and Mrs. Ryall, Mrs. Flaherty and daughters. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. A. E. Davies & Co., and conducted in Bunbury by Messrs. Wm. Brittain and Son.[3]
