Biography

Russell W Roberts was born Nov 29 in 1818 in Oaksville, Otsego County, New York. He had three sons and six daughters with Elizabeth Barnes between 1850 and 1866. He died in 1884 at the age of 66 and was buried in Stephens Cemetery, Canisteo, New York. Was a farmer.

Was his sister's will; Alma Roberts that provided the document needed to locate Russels father and family.

1880 states his father was born in Rhode Island. Mother born in NY. 1865 & 1875 NY census states he was born in Otsego County, NY.


Occupation: farmer (in 1880) he was raising beef cattle and growing apples as his main products with smaller amounts of hay and corn grown probably to feed the cattle, some barnyard chickens and a milk cow for use in producing food for his family as well as some to sell, and two horses for tending the fields and providing transportation, he also sold a small amount of timber from his woodlands, in 1870 he had both dairy and beef cows as well as some sheep and a pig along with oxen and horses and grew rye. Village of Canisteo had 342 souls in 1868.
