John Roberts was killed at Black Lake Colliery on 23 Jun 1871

Joseph was born in 1840. He was the son of Charles Roberts.

John married Prudence Roden on 19 Jul 1863 at Holy Trinity Church in Sneyd, Staffordshire. Both were of full age and living in Sneyd. Their fathers were named as William Voune and Charles Roberts.[1]

John died on 23 Nov 1871, aged 31, in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. He was working as the night deputy in Black Lake Colliery, and was suffocated whilst asleep by gases produced by an underground fire; eight people were killed.[2][3]
