Biography

Flag of Oxfordshire (adopted 2017)
Sarah (Roberts) Finney was born in Oxfordshire, England.

Sarah was born about 1844. [1] She was the daughter of james Roberts and Sarah (Green) Roberts and was born on 15 February 1844 and baptised on 7 July 1844 in Eynsham, Oxfordshire. The family were living in Eynsham and her father was a Labourer. [2]

In 1851 Sarah was living her parents and siblings in Ensham where her father worked as a Farm labourer, [3] however by 1861, she was in London, working as a Housemaid in the household of Army Captain, Henry Campbell and his family. [4]

On 17 October 1872 Sarah 28, daughter of James Roberts, labourer, married by Licence Adolphe Steinbrecher in Eynsham, Oxfordshire. They were both single and she was living in Eynsham at that time. Adolphe was 29, a Book Keeper living in Knightsbridge, and his father named as Philip Steinbrecher, Servant. [5] [6]

Adolph had died, (possibly 1875 in France) before Sarah married again to Henry Finney on 3 December, 1879, St Paul, Wilton Place, London, [7] [8] and in 1881 they are living in Coleshill Street, St George, Belgrave, where Henry is a Butler, and they have a daughter Elizabeth Margaret born in 1880. [9] Son Charles was born in 1882, and in 1891 they are living at Eaton Terrace. Henry was still a Butler at this point, [10] but by 1901 he was a Lodging House Keeper and they were at the same address. [11]

Henry died in 1905 and un the 1911 Sarah 67, was the widowed head of household in Ealing, Middlesex, England.[12]

Sarah (age 71) died in about 1915 and was buried on 25 February 1915 in Ealing & Old Brentford Cemetery, London. [13] [14]

Research Notes I have not found Sarah or Adolph Steinbecher in 1871census, and think it's possible she was working abroad possibly in France, and met him there, and just returned to England for their marriage. I have also not found a death for Adolph, but he likely died in France in 1875. There is a possible death which could be Adolph's father Philippe Steinbecher who died in France in 1906, but Probate was granted in London. [15]
