According to census records, David was born in Flint, Flintshire, North Wales in about 1863. Birth date and place on original profile was 21 May 1859 at Roskells Square in Flint but unsourced.

The marriage between David Roberts and Harriet Ann Readen was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1883 in the Stockton district. ^[1]

In 1901, the Roberts family was living at Front Street, Whickham. ^[2]

In 1911, David and Harriet were living at 60 Queen St in Ryhope. In this record, David and Harriet did not say how long they had been married. They did state that they had had 10 children with 6 dead. They listed 2 daughters Annie Isabella 28 and Mary Ellen 26 possibly still alive but crossed out because they weren't present. Also 2 stillborn babies, John, James, another Mary Ellen and Lizzie were listed and crossed out. ^[3]
