Thomas was born about 1824 in the Bahamas to parents who were both born in the Bahamas. He was a mariner He married Elizabeth Russell He passed away in 1892 and is buried in the Key West Cemetery. In 1957 Thomas' paternal grand daughter, Louise Roberts (living in Marsh Harbour, Abaco) wrote, "The Roberts came from Belfast, Ireland - three brothers wrecked here and decided to make Hope Town their home - William Thomas and John. Thomas was Bert's great-grand father. The Russells also came from Ireland. There are no Russells [sic] in the Bahamas that belongs to that family only Bert's grandfather Roberts descendents, all the others went to Key West."
Y-STR results indicate Thomas was born in the Bahamas because his direct paternal line descendants match several other direct paternal Roberts lines from Harbour Island, Eleuthera which trace back prior to Thomas' birth.
