• Joan and three of her siblings have had their DNA tested which has enabled the Visual Phasing technique to be used to map John's DNA back to his 4 grandparents. Through these tests both the maternal and paternal lines have been confirmed back to their parents Edward Roberts and Mona Murphy.^[2]

• The paternal line is confirmed back to her fifth great grandparents John Lee and Elizabeth Higgs. ^[3] It has subsequently been confirmed that an additional segment on Chromosome 7 belongs to John Lee. ^[4] For details of further DNA confirmations on the paternal ROBERTS line please click here.

• The maternal line has also been confirmed via Family Finder matches with her first cousin back to their great grandparents John Murphy and Rebecca Cassidy;^[5] her second cousin back to their great grandparents Thomas Cassidy and Mary Sweeney; and with her second cousin once removed, back to her great grandparents James Murphy and Elizabeth Bateman. Sadly, this appeared on Mums 23andMe page after she died. She would have been extremely chuffed having been a member of the Richard III society for many years!
