Biography

Jane Roberts was born April 10, 1794, in Kentucky, a daughter of Edward Roberts and Cathryn Christina Bray. On November 7, 1815, in Winchester, Clark county, Kentucky, Jane married Jacob Morton. [1]

Jane's father was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War and is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A096904. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of Jane Roberts and "Joab" Morton. [2]

Children of Jane and Joab include:

  • Christina Catherine Morton, born May 6, 1817, in Kentucky, died August 18, 1875, married Carlisle Brown
  • Richard Morton, born 1818, died September 4, 1906, in Highland county, Ohio, married 1) Lucinda Ruble and 2) Elvira Jane Barnes
  • Lucinda Morton, born March 11, 1821, died July 23, 1894, married William C. McKenzie
  • Isaiah Morton, born May 18, 1832, in Ohio, died June 15, 1889, in Ohio, married Jane Lieurance
  • Elizabeth Ellen Morton, born July 15, 1838, in Clinton county, Ohio, died August 11, 1926, in Clinton county, Ohio, married Eli Francis Carson

Joab Morton, who was born January 22, 1790, died August 18, 1846 and is buried in the New Antioch Cemetery, in Clinton county, Ohio. Jane (Roberts) Morton died August 8, 1869, at the age of 75 years and is buried with him. [3]
