Ann Gunthorpe of Antigua, widow. Will dated 4 Dec. 1754. To my dau. Mary Gunthorpe all my estate & appoint her sole Ex'trix. Witnessed by Catherine White, Charles W. Man.

Codicil dated 21 Dec. 1760. My dau. Mary, now wife of Jeremiah Blizard, Esq. My son John Gunthorpe deceased. All estate to my granddau. Ann Byam, 21 dau. of Henry & Hester Byam. Jeremiah Blizard & Rowld Ash, Esq", to be her Guardians. Witnessed by Willoughby Byam, John Robertson. By Governor Thomas were sworn Catherine White, widow, and Dr Willoughby Byam 19 Feb. 1761. Recorded 21 Feb. 1761.[1]

1763

Neill Campbell of Antigua, surgeon. Will dated 21 Nov. 1761. To my mother-in-law Elizth Burton £50 0. My slave Sophia to be free. To my sister Mary McMillan in London the interest of £500 st. yearly & £500 st. for her children. To my dear friend Dr John McKittrick all sums due from Dr. John Robertson upon entering into co-partnership with him, about £1000 0., to be paid annually during partnership, and about £2000 st. as soon as my estate can pay it; and I recommend him to enter into partnership with Dr. Robertson. The debt due from Mr. John Martin, planter, not to be pressed for 7 years. To my wife Oath. g-of residue & all furniture. To David Potter the other .12. Rob‘t Christian, Esq., Dr. John McKittrick, Dr. John Robertson, & David Potter, Merch‘, Ex’ors, also Thos. Burton, Esq., Exor, & Dr. Wm Millar & my wife Oath. Witnessed by John Gatley, John Burton, merchant. Also to my aunt Isabella Campbell of London £50 st. The legacy of £2000 c. to Dr. J. McKeteriek I am unable to pay, therefore I give him £250 st. David Potter to forfeit his share of my estate if he marry Margt Benin or any except a white woman, then all debts due by my mother-in-law I give her, & remainder of forfeiture to my wife. Witnessed by Abigail Burton, etc. Before His Excellency Geo. Thomas were sworn John Gatley of St. John’s, merchant, on 20 Oct. 1763, and John Aird, Tho. Burton on 3 Dec. 1763.[2]

Will dated 30 Nov. 1770; proved 3 June 1771 by James Grant, Esq.; power reserved to James Brebner, now James Gordon, and Robert Christian, Esquires, Sir Alexander Grant, Bart., and Lewis Grant. To my sister Eliz., widow of M’ Alex Fraser, £50. To my nephew Lachlan Grant £300. To Mary, dau. of my friend Jas. Brebner, now called Jas. Gordon, £200. To Marg, dau. of Rob: Christian, £300. To Arthur Grant Robertson, son of Dr John Robertson, £200. To my friends Sir Alex Grant of Dalvey, Bart., & his lady, each 50 guineas. To Henrietta King, widow of the late Mr John King, £33 c. To my brother Joseph Grant £40 yearly. All residue to my nephew James Grant of Carron in the parish of Abelour in Banffshire & to his wife Eliz. & their heirs, then to my cousin D. W." Grant, physician in London. My mulatto John to be free. Jas. Brebner, now Gordon, & Rob: Christian, Esq.", Sir Alex Grant of Dalvey, Bart, my nephew Jas. Grant of Carron, & Lachlan Grant, Ex'ors. Witnessed by Thomas Warner, James Gavin, Will Higgins. Codicil dated 30 Nov. 1770. Am now in the possession of the plantation of John Lindsey, Esq., formerly let to Rob Bannister, late of this island, deceased, whose lease was rendered void after his death by non-payment of rent, & the estate was then leased to me for 4 years. I give this lease to Lachlan Grant.[3]

1784, Aug. 17. John Nihell of Antigua, Edwd Nihell of London, clerk, & Lawrence Nihell of Bath, M.D., by the said John Nihell their attorney for £1200 convey to John Robertson, late of Antigua, now of London, M.D., land & houses in St John's Town, bounded E. with land belonging to the heirs of Lydia Nihell.[4]

1792

Francis Blizard, writing clerk. Will dated 15 March 1789. To my wife Sarah my furniture and nothing more than she can claim by law. To my brothers John, George, Joshua, & Christopher Blizard, & my sisters Rebecca Jacobs, Elizth Blizard, & Sarah Sperkins ‘all residue equally. Dr. John Robertson & Mr. John Meredith Ex’ors. Witnessed by Thos. Skeet, Joseph Pattison, Edwd Bertie. Before Edw‘l Byam, Esq., appeared J 0s. Pattison and was sworn 15 May 1792. Recorded 15 May 1792. (vol1)

Arthur Grant Robertson matriculated at the University in 1775. He was born in Antigua, eldest son of John, a medical doctor there.

Robertson went on to graduate MD from Edinburgh in 1783.[5]
