Biography

John was born 18 Jul 1821.in South Carolina. The moved to Moss bluff Florida. His family came to Leesburg in 1843 as part of the armed occupation act His family were the first white settlers arrive in what is now Leesburg FL. He married Mary Ellen Morrison in 1848. She died in 1862 and he quickly remarried a Mary Permelia Ward they had 8 children. He was a charter member of the Leesburg Masonic Lodge and the second Lodge Master. He was also in the Civil War and was taken prisoner but gained parole in Waldo Florida. John Marmaduke Robertson passed away 20 Aug 1878. He was buried at the Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg FL. I visited Lone Oak recently and found his Masonic headstone cracked and broken.
