Biography

Daughter of Louisville banker Eugene Beverly Robertson (1866-1957) and Clara Mae Thomas (1884-1974).

Married 1st - 1935 to a Baptist minister, William John Keech (1904-1976);

Married 2nd -1986 to a college sweetheart, Charles Bernard Yancey (1908-1997);

The Courier Journal of Louisville, KY printed an article on Monday, August 17, 1992 featured Clara Louise Robertson Keech Yancey and her diary from the early 1900s that had been gone for many years, and eventually ended back up in her hands. The article was entitled “Diary of Louisville girlhood stirs research – and memories”. The diary was purchased for $75 from a Lexington book dealer who had found it in Pennsylvania. It said she purchased diaries for every one of her descendants at that time and asked them to keep it because “…it might be interesting some day.”

Clara Louise Robertson Keech Yancey, 96, of Durham, NC, died March 17, 2004. She was born in Louisville on February 14, 1908, where she grew up. She attended Stetson University in DeLand, FL, and graduated from the University of Louisville. In 1935, she married William John Keech. Together, they lived in California, Utah, New York and Pennsylvania. In 1975, she moved to Durham and was widowed a year later. In 1986, she married Charles B. Yancey, who had courted her in college. He, too, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, William Robertson Keech, and daughter-in-law, Sharon Barre Keech, both of Pittsburgh; a granddaughter, Sarah Kirsten Keech of Tokyo, Japan; a grandson, Daniel Dale Keech; a granddaughter-in-law, Cynthia Moore Keech; two great-grandsons, William Cody Keech and Thomas Jacob Keech of La Crescenta, CA; and a niece, Beverly Robertson Clark of Louisville. Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh, NC, is in charge of arrangements.
