Biography
James was christened 1 May 1808 at Errol, Perth, Scotland. Father James, mother Helen Sandiman.[1]

'John' Robertson married Ann Coupar 9 Mar 1839 at Errol, Perthshire, Scotland.[2]
Agnes born 5 April 1841 at Errol, Perth, Scotland.[3]
Sailed from Greenoch, Scotland on the barque India leaving 4 June 1841.Unfortunately the India caught fire and sank at sea 200 miles north east of Rio de Janiero. 17 Souls perished in the disaster with the remainder being rescued by the crew of the ROLAND - a French whaling vessel. The survivors were conveyed to Rio de Janeiro where the British Government hired another ship the Grindlay to transport them to Port Phillip where they arrived on October 22[4][5] Also on board her sister Elizabeth and husband Alexander Gibb.
In Australia at last Robertson and Gibb became partners as blacksmith and wheelwright respectively 10 miles north of Melbourne on the Sydney Road. The partnership prospered and by 1848 they were able to purchase 640 acres of land nearby.[6] They divided the land and both built 'grand' homes in the Scottish style. James called his home Gowrie Park and Gibb called his Meadowbank.[7]
James ran the farm with his children till 1872 when he leased the property.[8]
Ann died of dysentery in 1872 at the age of 58 years.
He passed away in 1888[9] at Sunnyside, Waggarandall, the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. James Moodie, James Robertson, late of Gowrie park, Campbellfield, and No. 6 Bridport-street, Albert-park, aged 80 years. A colonist of 47 years.[10]
Buried Will Will Rook Cemetery, Broadmeadows, Hume City, Victoria.[11]

At the time of his death his assets were 46,434 pounds![7]
