This is my paternal grandfather. After he was married to Elma Cadle, he married my grandmother Virginia Colwell . He changed his name to Jack Robertson at some point. They had 2 sons Jack and Victor Joel (my father). I believe he lied about his age in his earlier years to gain employment as his birth date was actually April 1909. He died in Spalding County GA. My father does not have the name of Robie's father, and I would love some further information if you find any. He was born 1909 in North John's AL. He had a sister named Bea. Mr. Piazza,
Thank you so much for all of your help with my Grandfather's profile. I really appreciate it!! The census of 1920 that you posted is my Grandfather's family . ( the names are just spelled wrong - However, it says that my Great Grandmother was unable to read and write, which might explain it) I spoke with my Dad last night, and he did say that they had borders staying with them. I have trouble doing research myself, as his name has been spelled differently on different records. It is sometimes listed as Rodie and now Robe. I haven't been able to see the 1910 Census which should list his parents. I know his dad died when he was very young ( around 5 or so) My dad said his Grandfather was a sheriff somewhere in Alabama and was shot and killed in the line of duty. I am trying to research that angle, but I don't know the county. I am wondering too if my Greatgrandmother's name was actually Rutha or did they misspell that too and perhaps it was Ruth A.
My Grandmother was Virginia Pearl Colwell. She was born Oct. 24, 1918 and she died April 12, 1999. She married my Grandfather on June 5th, 1938. They had 2 sons - Jack Darnell Robertson born June 24, 1939. My father, Victor Joel Robertson was born March 26th, 1942 in Spalding County, GA. My Grandfather passed away Sept. 15, 1970 in Spalding County GA. after battling lung cancer.
He is buried at Towaliga Baptist Cemetery next to my Grandmother. I have attached some pictures of the tombstones and of one of the homes they shared when he passed away.
Thank you so much again for all of your help!
Warm regards, Kimberly Baggett
